Fremantle CEO Steve Rosich has confirmed Ross Lyon will coach the club until at least the end of the 2020 season.

Speaking on Melbourne’s 3AW radio on Sunday, Rosich put to bed the speculation that surrounded Lyon’s coaching future, with many in the media questioning if Lyon would coach to the end of his contract that expires after the 2020 season.

“The short answer is yes (Lyon will coach Fremantle in 2020),” Rosich told 3AW.

“It is a question I have been asked regularly throughout the year.

“It probably started after 12 games when we were 7-5 and sixth on the ladder in the context that some clubs had moved on coaches and I was asked does it affect you extending Ross beyond 2020.

“It is the same answer. We are really positive about Ross being contracted.

“We can work out where to from 2020 later. Our focus is on season 2019 and it still is with three games to go.”

Rosich also declared that he will be at the club next year, adding he enjoyed a good working relationship with general manager of football Peter Bell.

“I certainly will be (at Fremantle in 2020),” Rosich said.

“I put Peter into the role after a process of looking for people to replace Chris Bond. I’m delighted he accepted the role. We work very closely together.

“He is leading the work of making sure we have got everyone in place and structures and operations to take us to the next phase of our growth for 2020 and beyond and I am helping him with that.”

Following Fremantle’s impressive 34-point win against ladder-leaders Geelong, Rosich said the club was buoyant about its immediate future with numerous player re-signings in the past year.

“We’ll just keep trying to do as many things as we can right,” Rosich said.

“We have re-signed 12 or 13 players over the last six or seven months and we are well positioned for the next phase of acquiring players through the trade (period).

“In the game yesterday, we had 11 players that have played less than fifty games with an almost unrecognisable backline and forward line to what we had earlier in the season.

“We have got our major sponsors re-signed until 2022. I think we are the only club in the league to have done that.

“We have grown sponsorship. We are number two in the league for corporate revenue. We are number two in the league for membership revenue.”
