Fremantle forward Sam Switkowski has given valuable insight into the world of being one of the more senior players and leaders in Justin Longmuir’s side.
Speaking at his Wednesday morning media conference, Switkowski said Longmuir has an open-door policy and enjoys receiving ideas and feedback from his playing group.
"We talk regularly. I sometimes pester him a bit too much and get into his office and come up with some suggestions for the game plan or things to try,” Switkowski said.
“Sometimes they hit, sometimes they miss, but he has a great mantra of pretty much ‘best idea wins’ or ‘best solution’.
“He's always willing to hear from everybody, which is great."
With the forward line humming in 2026, Switkowski, as one of the Club’s leaders and on-field generals of the forward line, said the credit was not his to take. Rather, he enjoys dissecting the game for others to allow them to play their best footy.
"I love educating the younger guys about the game,” Switkowski said.
“I love thinking about it from an analytical point of view.
“I feel like I'm a good bridge between our players and coaches, and getting on the same page."
As the Club’s 1 - 0 mantra continues this weekend, Switkowski confirmed that although last year’s final loss to Gold Coast was heartbreaking, the team had moved on and was a new and improved version of themselves.
“I feel like we're a completely different team now than where we were in the last season, and I think they're the same as well,” Switkowski said.
“I think if you focus too much on the past and holding grudges or anything like that, I'm not sure how much it helps.
“I feel like it's more of a distraction, so I feel like if we just keep focusing on bringing our best brand and playing as good as we have been recently, that's going to hold us in the best stead, and hopefully get the four points on the weekend."
Fremantle and Gold Coast will clash on Sunday 28 June at Optus Stadium at 3.10pm WST.
