The Fremantle Football Club are proud to introduce a formal Player Alumni Program as a dedicated initiative designed to reconnect, support and celebrate the men and women who have pulled on the iconic purple at AFL and AFLW levels.
The program underpins a broader Player Alumni Strategy, focused on strengthening governance, engagement, communication and connection between past and present players through legacy-driven initiatives that foster cultural continuity, community engagement and wellbeing.
The Club's deep commitment to its people underlines and recognises that the relationships between Fremantle and its former players doesn't end when a career does, strengthening the intergenerational ties that define the Freo Family.
A pivotal part of this program is the alignment to Club coterie group, the AJ Diamond Club. Fremantle acknowledge the outstanding support of the AJ Diamond Club, whose commitment to the personal and professional development of our playing lists now extends beyond current players to include player alumni. We are proud to have them alongside us in building this program.
Longtime servant and Life Member Gary "Springa" Ingraham has been appointed as the Player Alumni Coordinator. The role provides administrative support and a focus in maintaining regular communication with alumni, managing an annual calendar of events, and serving as a trusted point of contact for the Club's former playing group.
AJ Diamond Club President Paul Burton said being part of the initiative with the Club was important step for all.
"The AJ Diamond Club is proud to provide funding and access to experienced people to support the Fremantle Football Club's ambition to be the best, not only on the field but also in the way it cares for its players and staff,” Burton said.
“That commitment now extends in a meaningful way to former players. As the Football Club has grown for over more than 30 years, it has built a proud history and a number of generations of past players.
“With that comes an opportunity, and a responsibility to ensure those who have contributed to the Club can access meaningful support when they need it."
The Club has also expanded the responsibilities of Head of Wellbeing and AFLW Development Angie Bain to include dedicated transitional support for players leaving the game.
This expansion of Angie's role ensures that both AFL and AFLW players have access to meaningful, personalised off-field support as they navigate life beyond football.
The Club recognises that life after football presents its own challenges. The Alumni Program provides a direct conduit to AFL Players Association (AFLPA) support services, including wellbeing resources, career transition assistance and hardship support, ensuring no former player navigates that journey alone.
