The champion ruckman has been out after sustaining a turf-toe injury on his right foot in round 11 this season.
The injury is more common among American football players who competed often on artificial surfaces.
That came after the same injury on his left foot kept him out for nine matches in 2011.
Sandilands told Channel 7 News his comeback was going well.
“I’ve started running on grass,” he said.
“It’s just a matter of getting strength back in the ligaments in the foot.”
He’ll have to wear a protective plate in his shoe, but Sandilands was confident he’d done everything right to help him get back to playing.
“I’m walking down the beach and doing exercises to strengthen the bottom of my foot to hopefully get enough strength in there so I’ll be right to go.”
