Ryan Crowley and Adam Selwood were on hand today to promote the international series between Australia and Ireland when it resumes in Perth on Friday October 24 as part of the Australian Football 150 Year celebrations.

The Australian team will be defending the Cormac McAnallen trophy for a third successive series, following victories in Australia in 2005 and Ireland in 2006.

The hybrid game was brought to a halt in 2006 following a spiteful series in Ireland and Ryan said Australia's players may need to tone down their aggression, which has marred past series.

“When you pull on that Australian jumper it's a weird sort of feeling - you sort of get that sense of playing for your country and you've got the whole country looking at you, so it is pretty fiery,” Crowley said.

“I think in the last series the Irish gave as good as they got, but I suppose with all the press that came along with what happened with the last series we might have to tone it down a little bit.”

To prevent further on-field violence, the AFL has promised that any suspensions incurred in the international rules series would be served in the following year's home-and-away season.

“If you are going to step over the mark you've got to pay the consequences,” Crowley said.

Fremantle and West Coast Eagles members have the opportunity to buy tickets for this match before they go on sale to the general public.

Australian coach Mick Malthouse said he was honoured to take on the role as Australian coach for the series.

"The chance to work with the best players from across the competition is something that has me very excited about this role,” Mr Malthouse said.

"Australia and Ireland have always contested very close matches since these series began in 1998 and we will need to play extremely well to overcome the challenge they will put to us."
