Luke Ryan and Griffin Logue following Fremantle's win against St Kilda in round 17.

Griffin Logue may find himself playing forward or back in any given week, but it’s clear the versatile tall’s loyalty stands with his backline brothers after the 24-year-old had nothing but praise for his teammates following Fremantle’s 41-point win against St Kilda.

Originally named to play in the forward line, Logue found out 15 minutes before bounce that he would be switching to defence after the late withdrawal of Alex Pearce due to calf tightness.

It meant Brennan Cox was switched onto Max King, with Logue coming to his aid on multiple occasions with 12 spoils and nine intercepts in a career-best game according to the AFL Player Rankings.

Logue said his teammates made it possible for him to perform at his best despite preparing all week to play as a forward.

“it makes it so much easier with the backmen that I get to play with, Lukey (Luke Ryan), Coxy, Wills (Nathan Wilson), Walks (Brandon Walker), Youngy (Hayden Young), Clarky (Jordan Clark)…it makes such a big difference,” Logue said.

“I love playing with them. There’s trust across the line. You see one-on-one contests, two-on-one contests and you just have full faith in the boys to get it done. It helps us set up and play our game from there.”

Logue had particular praise for Clark. The half back recruit from Geelong had his first 30-disposal game as he and Young worked hard on the rebound.

“He’s bouncing off half back like no other and had a career-high disposals game himself,” Logue said.

“What he’s been able to do since he’s come to the club has been awesome. Clarky’s having a breakout year for sure.”

Logue said Freo’s two recruits in Clark and Will Brodie were having an outstanding 2022, with Brodie one of Freo’s best with 29 disposals and two goals.

“It’s been great how (Clark and Brodie) have been able to fit into our system, not just fit in, but to be able to excel in it,” Logue said.

A passionate St Kilda fan growing up, the win was Logue’s first against the Saints in five attempts.

“It’s a massive win…any win away is good,” Logue said.

“I haven’t beaten the Saints personally and it meant a lot to us as a group. Every game towards the end of the year is going to be a big one.”
