Fremantle young gun Murphy Reid has signed a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at the Club until at least 2029.

Previously contracted until 2027, Reid has recommitted to the Club for a further two years after settling into life as one of Fremantle’s most exciting young talents.

The 18-year-old has played every game in 2025 after being selected with pick No.17 in last year’s National Draft, months after claiming Vic Metro’s MVP award and All-Australian selection as a midfielder in the National Championships.

Marking a memorable AFL debut with four goals in Round 1, Reid has adapted to a new role across half-forward, kicking 16 goals in 14 matches – including a second four-goal performance against Port Adelaide in Round 11.

Fremantle Head of Player Personnel David Walls says locking the teenage Victorian in for another two years is a great outcome for the Club.

“Since joining the Freo family, Murphy has demonstrated a strong sense of professionalism to learn and improve his game,” Walls said.

“He came to the Club as a midfielder and has transitioned to a new role in attack after working closely with our coaches - and the entire playing squad - to add to his game.

“Moving to WA, Murphy has been able to develop strong relationships with his teammates and has established a good connection with his host family.

“It’s obviously been a strong year on-field as a first-year player, so it’s pleasing to be able to reward that form with an extension. Clearly, he is happy and wants to be a part of what we are building at Fremantle.”

Speaking on the Club’s Better Down Back podcast, Reid said the extension was an easy decision.

“Ever since I got here, everyone has just wrapped their arms around me,” Reid said.

“The connection is great here at the Club, the culture is great, and that’s probably been a highlight - making new mates.

“Jaymie Graham (forwards coach) and all the high half-forwards have taken me under their wing - like Michael Frederick, Sam Switkowski, and Shai Bolton. Those boys who are a bit more experienced in that field, have all been great in helping me transition from a midfielder to a forward.”

Reid’s signature makes him one of 10 players contracted to Fremantle until 2028 or beyond.
