Fremantle midfielder Neil Erasmus has signed a three-year contract extension that will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of 2028.
Erasmus was out of contract at the end of 2025, and despite attracting interest from rival clubs, he has reaffirmed his commitment to Fremantle, the Club that selected him with pick No.10 in the 2021 AFL National Draft.
“There was a bit of interest elsewhere which was documented, but I’ve got so much here in Perth and in WA,” Erasmus said.
“It would have been a tough decision to let that go.
“Over my four years here, I’ve had to work hard for my opportunities, but I’ll continue to do that because I feel like both I and the Club are heading in the right direction.
“I just trusted that and wanted to commit to the Club that drafted me.”
The 21-year-old made a career-high 16 AFL appearances in 2025, utilising the opportunity to play a variety of roles across the midfield, wing and forward line - continuing to develop versatility in his game.
“As the year went on I had a little role initially inside, but then moved out to the wing once we got a couple of the boys back,” Erasmus said.
“I was still able to play my role and the coaches were happy with how I was performing out on the wing.
“As you get a few more opportunities, the game starts to slow down a little bit for you and I feel like that’s what I’ve been waiting for.
“I’m glad the coaches trust me to play different roles in the first place.
“I think I can play them and I think I’m versatile enough to play any position.
“I’ve enjoyed that and sometimes it finds you a way into the team.”
His best body of work arguably came at the climax of Fremantle’s season, when in the last four pressure-cooker games, Erasmus averaged 20.25 disposals, 2.75 marks and 2.5 tackles per game, as well as hitting the scoreboard in the Round 24 win over the Bulldogs and Saturday’s Elimination Final.
Looking ahead, Erasmus hopes to build on his 2025 performances and, after a strong off-season, hit the ground running in 2026.
“Those sorts of games (end-of-season pressure) suit my style – a bit more contested,” Erasmus said.
“I enjoy the big game and the big occasion, so I think that suited me. It was good to be able to play a role in those games.
“I hope that I can take more confidence from the summer into next year as well.”
Fremantle Head of Player Personnel David Walls says the Club is delighted with Erasmus’ decision to sign on.
“Neil’s a top 10 draft pick who is 21 years of age and still has a lot of growth and improvement to come,” Walls said.
“He attracted significant interest from rival clubs, but he has a real drive to succeed and get better and is very invested in what this group can achieve.
“His end to the season was outstanding and he stepped up with some big moments in big games.”
