Fremantle Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) signing Mason Cox says he can’t wait to get to work with the Club’s big men.
Upon the official announcement of Cox signing with Fremantle as an SSP player on Monday, Cox shared that he was excited to get stuck into day one of pre-season with new teammates.
The 34-year-old immediately hit the track with 1st to 4th year players – along with a host of hungry senior players who were due to return to training next week.
“You look at exactly what they were able to do last year and the streak of wins they put together, it’s pretty impressive,” said Cox.
“Hopefully I can add a bit of experience and everything else to continue that success.”
Cox will add depth to the ruck department and is keen to get to work with experienced ruck pair Luke Jackson and Sean Darcy.
“It's kind of a weird thing, because Sean and I have somewhat of a connection through friends back home in the US, and Luke I've kind of known throughout the years of playing against him,” Cox said.
“It’s a bit of a fraternity of sorts for ruckmen. You always have mutual respect for someone who plays a very similar position to you, so I'm excited to get over there, catch up with them for a coffee, and just pick their brains to see exactly how I can help out.”
No stranger to the big stage, Cox shared his excitement to get to Optus Stadium and play in front of the Purple Army.
Cox was signed by Collingwood as an international rookie in 2014 and famously debuted on Anzac Day 2016, kicking the first goal of the game in front of 85,082 people at the MCG.
“That's why I'm here. I've got a lot of experience, been in the system for 11 years, and I think my body’s going really well. So, I'm pretty excited to be able to continue the journey,” Cox said.
“It's a very different stadium (Optus), but I think it's almost all-encompassing.
“Whenever you go there and you play in front of a big crowd, you really feel the noise of all the fans.
“It’s a great atmosphere, and it's going to be exciting. It’s a bit of a different look, but I'm stoked to get over there and be able to play in front of the purple.”
Following the signing of Cox on Monday, Fremantle have one remaining rookie list spot for the 2026 season.
