Fremantle key defender Brennan Cox said the team is keen to dive into some match preparations against actual AFL opposition following the conclusion of the two-day Community Camp in Bunbury, which ended with the Club’s final intraclub of the preseason.

Fremantle will now face West Coast on Friday 21 February at Victor George Kailis Oval before taking on the Adelaide Crows in its official AAMI preseason match at Rushton Park in Mandurah on Saturday 28 February.

“It’s always weird playing against your own teammates, but we got what we needed to and are ready to get into some real opposition,” Cox said following the Friday morning intraclub.

“I feel like we always see a bit of a competitive edge and a bit of biff when playing each other.

“The boys want to win and it’s pretty competitive, but afterwards we’re all friends again.”

The teams were evenly matched, with the final margin separating the two by less than a goal. Cox, who played on the Purple side, noted his standout performers of the morning.

“Karl (Worner) was really good in the back line,” Cox said.

“He played in the Purple, so he's really noticeable because he's on my team. So was Youngy (Hayden Young), he was really good through the middle, and I thought Bruce (Murphy Reid) was pretty classy all day as he always is.”

Cox said the countdown to Round One was well and truly underway within the group, with excitement building for a rematch with Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

“Yeah, 100 per cent we’re keen to go (to Geelong), especially after last year and the performance we put up over there in Round One,” Cox said.

“We’re keen to get back there, give it another go and hopefully have a better result than we did last year.”
