Fremantle has bolstered their small forward stocks ahead of the 2026 season by adding Chris Scerri to the rookie list as a Supplemental Selection Period pick.

The Club announced the exciting news to Scerri during a team meeting after training this morning.

The Northern Bullants product arrived at Fremantle as a train-on in late November, deciding a move west could help keep his AFL dream alive after being originally offered a train-on spot with Richmond.

The train-on position in purple came off the back of an impressive VFL campaign that saw Scerri win the Bullants' Best First Year Player award in 2025.

The 19-year-old immediately got down to work and couldn’t be happier to join the Freo family.

“I’m just speechless honestly, I can’t wait to get stuck in with the boys,” Scerri said.

“It’s something I will cherish forever and I'm just super grateful for the Freo Dockers family.

“I like to think my development has been through the roof ever since I got working with Sam Switkowski, our development coach Chris Mayne and forwards coach Jaymie Graham.

“I'm keen to keep learning from Switta and elevate my game under him."

“I like taking the game on with my speed, run and agility. I also love a tackle and like to put pressure on my opponent to force turnovers. “

Fremantle Head of Player Personnel David Walls said the small pressure forward has forced his way onto the list with an outstanding pre-season.

“Just love his competitiveness and his attitude,” said Walls.

“He hasn’t put a foot wrong from the day he stepped in the door. He’s got good speed, good agility, power and he’s trained his backside off since he got here."

- David Walls on Chris Scerri

“He’s improved, he’s got to know the role and the game plan incredibly well – to the point where he’s now talking up in meetings and is directing some of the other younger guys that are still learning.”

Walls also paid tribute to Fremantle leader Sam Switkowski who has helped Scerri with his craft throughout the summer.

“Similar role, similar story as well with their journey through the VFL – coming into the system a little bit later,” said Walls.

“Switta’s been unreal for him, treats him like a little brother and is so keen for Chris to do well.

“Chris still has areas of his game to tidy up, but we know he has the attitude to work on that.

“We look forward to seeing where he can get to.”

Scerri fills the final spot on Fremantle’s list of 44 players for 2026, made up of 36 senior players, six Category A rookies and two Category B rookies
