Midfielder Dana Hooker has decided not to re-sign with Fremantle with the on-baller confirming she will join West Coast during the 2019 AFLW Sign and Trade Period.

AFLW senior coach Trent Cooper said that it was inevitable that Fremantle would lose some players in an expanding AFLW competition and wished Hooker all the best.

“Dana has been an excellent servant at Fremantle, both as a player and member of staff, and her resume speaks for itself,” Cooper said.

“With four clubs joining the AFLW in 2020, it was only natural that a player of her calibre would draw the attention of other clubs.

“While it is disappointing to lose Dana, our priority this Sign and Trade Period is to ensure that we retain as much of our core group as possible and I feel we are on track in achieving this goal.

“As an inaugural member of our AFLW team and our inaugural Fairest and Best winner, Dana is and will continue to be regarded as a pioneer of the women’s game at Fremantle.

“On behalf of the club, I thank her for her unwavering effort and contributions both on and off the field and we wish her all the best.”

Hooker enjoyed a successful three-year career at Fremantle, winning the club’s inaugural Fairest and Best in 2017 and finishing runner-up in 2018 and 2019.
