FREMANTLE midfielder Anthony Morabito will resume his comeback from a serious knee injury in the WAFL on Saturday, but coach Ross Lyon said the key youngster was at least a month away from pushing for AFL selection.

Morabito played his first game in 18 months with Peel Thunder reserves in round three, but he suffered a grade one hamstring tear in the WAFL one week later, continuing a frustrating run of setbacks for the No.4 draft pick.

Lyon said the powerful 20-year-old would play 60 minutes for Peel's league team on Saturday before building towards a possible AFL return either side of Fremantle's round 12 bye.

"The plan is for four games in the WAFL and then he will be available for senior selection," Lyon said on Friday.

"Anthony is really comfortable with that, it's doing the right thing.

"We were really patient with our other guys coming back from long-term injury and we'll take the same approach with Anthony.

"Hopefully he punches out his 10km of work [on Saturday] and he builds from there."

Lyon said Morabito would play inside midfield and wing roles with Peel on Saturday. However, bringing him back into the senior team initially as a forward remains an option.

Fremantle has made one change to the team that beat Gold Coast in round six, with star ruckman Aaron Sandilands replacing Jonathon Griffin.

Griffin has been named as an emergency alongside Alex Silvagni and Jay van Berlo, and Lyon said the forecast of rain in Perth on Sunday was a factor in the decision not to play two genuine ruckman.

There was doubt surrounding the fitness of midfielder Stephen Hill after he was subbed out of the Gold Coast clash with a corked left thigh, with forward Hayden Ballantyne battling a similar complaint this week.

However, after training lightly early in the week, Lyon said both players had been declared fit and would play against the Power.

"If it had have been a short week [Hill] may been in a battle of time but it has been an eight-day break so we go in fresh and refreshed," the coach said. "We had our last session and everyone has got through."

Lyon said he expected Port Adelaide to be aggressive and committed this week after coach Matthew Primus came under fire following the club's 1-5 start to the season.

He said Fremantle needed to improve and make a bright start after losing every first quarter this season since its round one win over Geelong.

"We haven't been starting well and that'll be a focus to try to get out of the blocks, as it will for them," he said.

"We understand they're a club that's been challenged and a coach, remarkably, has been challenged after six games of AFL football.

"We know they stand behind their coach and they're coming to give great effort. We certainly need to improve.

"We can all talk and hypothesise about what's going to happen but we've got to get out there and get it done. Come Sunday, we need to play some good football."
