Fremantle have finalised the details for a trade that will see Jesse Hogan become a Giant in exchange for a third round pick.

Freo will receive pick 54 for the forward, who played 19 games and kicked 18 goals in his two injury-interrupted seasons at Fremantle.

“We’ve agreed to release Jesse Hogan from his 2021 contract, he’s going to pursue his playing career at the GWS Giants and in return the Giants will be giving us pick 54,” executive general manager of football Peter Bell said.

“Clearly the trade for Jesse hasn’t ended the way that we would like but in the best interests of both parties we’ve agreed to this trade and we wish Jesse all the very best with the Giants.”

Bell said that it was unclear how the Hogan trade would impact the make-up of Fremantle’s list in 2021 as the club awaits confirmation from the AFL on list sizes.

“There’s still that uncertainty around list sizes and we are awaiting clarity from the AFL,” Bell said.

“Potentially with Jesse’s trade out, depending on the list sizes, there could be an additional list spot available to fill.

“As Jesse was a contracted player for 2021 there will be some total player payments space created by Jesse moving on as well.”

In a statement on the Fremantle website on Monday, Hogan thanked the club for its support during his two years.

"I would like to thank the Fremantle Football Club for giving me an opportunity two years ago to come home and be closer to my family after what had been some very challenging prior years,” Hogan said.

“I will be forever in debt to the club for the care and support they have provided for me in my time here.

“They have always placed a priority on myself as a person first and now they allow me the option to move back interstate and on to another AFL club.”

He also thanked the Fremantle playing group, management and supporters, and expressed regret at not being able to deliver on his potential.

“I wish I was able to contribute a lot more to the football club than I have in my time here,” Hogan said.

“You will not know how disappointed I am that it didn’t work out the way I hoped it would when I got to come to the Dockers.

“For that I’m sorry, but I leave a team that is on the way up and I wish you all success in the future.”
