Walyalup senior coach Justin Longmuir said Josh Treacy’s performances on the field aren’t just down to his statistical output, but also to the leader he has become.

Speaking following the 30-point win over Euro-Yroke (St Kilda), Longmuir said Treacy is a general on the field.

Treacy was immense in the win, gathering 19 disposals, 11 marks, four tackles and two goals.

“That’s an aspect of the leadership he shows, but he shows leadership in a lot of different ways with his communication, the work he does during the week, and his leadership within the forward line in general,” Longmuir said.

“His ability to work like he does eventually wears his opponent into the ground, creates a lot of opportunities, and also gives us a lot of stability.

“JT's ability to mark the ball when it exits D50 allows us to set the ground up and equalise numbers forward of the ball, they are huge plays, and he does it week in, week out.

“So, yeah, he’s super.”

Longmuir also made special mention of the work that went into nullifying Euro-Yroke’s stoppage game, an area that has been a strength for them in previous encounters.

“I think Hugo Garcia has been a really strong part of their system and stoppage work this year, he’s been really impressive,” Longmuir said.

“(We sent) Matthew Johnson to him, and he did a really good job.

“I think he ended up with 10 possessions, but half of those would have been as a half-forward.

“I thought Johnno did a really strong job there, which took away one of their more dangerous players.”

Walyalup will now face Brisbane in Round 12 at the Gabba, taking on the premiers of the last two seasons in a clash Longmuir says his side is looking forward to.

“It’s probably one of the longest road trips for us,” Longmuir said.

“It’s one of the more challenging teams to play, especially on their own field, so yeah, it’s a great challenge and we’re looking forward to it.”
