Fremantle Football Club and their Official Road Safety partner, RAC welcomed more than 75 Colts and Rogers players from Hammond Park Junior Football Club to the Club’s headquarters at Cockburn Arc for an impactful evening focused on resilience and road safety on Tuesday 2 June.
The event gave young players aged 16 to 19 practical tools and real-world perspective to help them stay safe as they transition into their early driving years.
Fremantle AFLW star Hayley Miller opened the night as MC and led a candid Q&A with fellow Fremantle AFL star Karl Worner on his personal experiences before the young players split into two rotating groups.
Group one took part in a resilience session led by Brayden Ainsworth from The Happiness Co, then joined Fremantle coaches Todd Curley and Chris Mayne for a focused 30-minute training session on Cockburn Arc Oval.
Group two headed to the Club’s lecture theatre to hear a powerful presentation from Michael Francis of the Paraplegic Benefit Fund, who shared his firsthand account of surviving a car crash that left him paralysed, a sobering reminder of the importance of safe driving choices for young people.
The evening finished with giveaways and a shared dinner for all attendees, providing a relaxed opportunity for players, coaches and guests to connect and reflect on the night’s messages.
The collaboration between RAC and Fremantle, displays how sport and community partners can combine with one another to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people.
